The project consists of monitoring the implementation of the Environmental Management Plan for the construction of the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) plant in Afungi, Palma District. Two full-time Environmental Site Officers (ESOs) and one Site Administrator from IMPACTO are based in Afungi to undertake the monitoring together with a team from Hatch and a Project Manager is based in Maputo.

Monitoring activities include biodiversity and critical habitat, wetland, mangrove, avifauna, diatoms, fish, crab, skink, carnivore and herbivore, alien and invasive species, water quality, and air quality monitoring related to construction related impacts. These look at different indicators as well as species of interest, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
